The convoy of buses was headed towards a migrant reception center near the town of Gualaca when the accident happened. Survivors of the accident were rushed to a hospital in the city of David with severe injuries, including exposed fractures and abdominal injuries. According to Dr. Katherine Guerra, the emergency department chief at the hospital, the situation was a disaster. Eye-witnesses at the scene of the accident described a harrowing scene that included families, children, newborn babies, and elderly women.
