New Delhi: The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) announced on Friday that it has withdrawn its proposal to celebrate February 14 as "Cow Hug Day." This comes after widespread criticism of the proposal, as February 14 is widely recognized as "Valentine's Day" worldwide. The Board's Secretary, S.K. Dutta, issued a statement saying, "In accordance with the directive of the competent authority and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the Animal Welfare Board of India's appeal for the celebration of Cow Hug Day on February 14 has been withdrawn."
