Terrifying footage captures gas pipeline explosion in aftermath of Turkey earthquake
A massive explosion has rocked Turkey as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The state-owned energy company, BOTAS, confirmed the suspension of natural gas flows in the aftermath of the tremor, which has so far claimed the lives of over 1,500 people.
Terrifying footage of the massive pipeline rupture has been widely shared on social media, showing the horrific scene of the explosion. The video shows flames rising into the sky, lighting up the darkness after the quake, which struck just before dawn at around 4 am.
The ominous glow of the fire illuminated the smoke-filled airspace as two sections of the pipeline, located approximately three kilometres apart, were ablaze. The towering flames reportedly reached up to 100ft high, causing widespread concern and shock.
The earthquake and subsequent pipeline rupture have left Turkey in a state of emergency, with rescue efforts underway to locate survivors and provide aid to those affected.
