The global theatrical premiere of the highly anticipated pan-Indian mythological drama Shaakuntalam has been scheduled for February 17, 2023. The film, which stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead role, will be released in five Indian languages: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. At the announcement of the theatrical premiere, director Gunasekhar spoke about the cast and crew's dedication to the film, causing lead actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu to break down in tears. Samantha praised Gunasekhar for creating a "magical world" in the film and thanked him for casting her in the role of Shakuntala.
