New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections (EWS) in admissions and government jobs. As per the reports, a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit and including Justices S Ravindra Bhat, Dinesh Maheswari, Bela M Trivedi and JB Pardiwal pronounced the judgement. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari stated that the EWS quota law didn't violate the equality code. He further stated that the EWS reservation didn't cause any damage to any important feature of the Constitution. CJI UU Lalit and Justice Bhat stated that the law was discriminatory and violative of the basic structure of the Construction.
