In a tweet that included a photo of him attending the Diwali reception at his official residence, Britain's newly appointed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his best wishes for Diwali to everyone and pledged to do everything in his power to create a country where children and grandchildren can light their Diyas and have hope for the future.

After becoming the first British Prime Minister of Indian descent on Tuesday, Mr. Sunak, 42, attended a Diwali reception at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday night.

Sunak, the country's first prime minister of Indian descent, entered office on Tuesday with a promise to correct the mistakes done by his predecessor Liz Truss. After seeing King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, he was appointed the next prime minister of the United Kingdom.
