On August 29, in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Ganji Chiranjeevi, a former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader from the Mangalagiri Assembly constituency, joined the YSR Congress party. Ganji Chiranjeevi was received by CM YS Jagan, who wrapped him in the party shawl. Speaking at the event, weaver community member Ganji Chiranjeevi stated he would contest for election in Mangalgiri in 2024 and wanted to receive support from his home town. The TDP, he claimed, does not respect BCs despite claiming to be the party of BCs. This is the most likely reason for his leaving the TDP. In the 2014 elections, Ganji Chiranjeevi contested on TDP ticket from Mangalagiri and fell barely short of victory to Alla Ramakrishna Reddy. He was compelled to concede the 2019 elections to Nara Lokesh, the son of the previous chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. Lokesh lost the election but has continued to run the party's operations in the district.
