In a 2010 r*pe case, a Karnataka sessions court issued a non-bailable warrant for the controversial godman Nithyananda. The III Additional District and Sessions court in Ramanagara, close to Bengaluru, has issued the non-bailable warrant (NBW). The court had previously issued an open-ended warrant against him as well, but the police were unable to apprehend him or determine his whereabouts. The Ramanagara Sessions Court is currently hearing the r*pe case, and the godman has not appeared there since 2019. The NBW was granted after repeated court orders were unanswered. Nithyananda is learned to have left India and formed his ashram in a unknown place he calls Kailasa.
