Jagdeep Dhankhar, the governor of West Bengal, has been put forth by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the position of vice president of India, according to BJP national president J P Nadda on Saturday. At a press conference, he declared, "After careful deliberation and consultation, we have chosen to name kisan putra (farmer's son) Jagdeep Dhankhar as the BJP and NDA's nominee for Vice President." M. Venkaiah Naidu's term as vice president expires on August 10; the position will become vacant. Vice presidential elections are set for August 6, with nominations due by July 19. Since taking office as West Bengal's governor in July 2019, Dhankhar and the state's government, which is led by Mamata Banerjee, have frequently clashed over a variety of topics.
