Following an unprecedented wave of resignations from his administration over the past two days, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reportedly announced his intention to step down. 44 cabinet ministers, including those in charge of the important ministries of home and finance, reportedly quit in the past 48 hours. On Thursday, Johnson will also address the nation.
According to a close ally, Johnson had demonstrated in the previous 48 hours that he would fight to the bitter end, but now he has agreed to step aside. A new Conservative leader will be appointed in time for the party's annual conference, but he will serve as caretaker prime minister until October.
