Against the backdrop of the Central government's announcement to implement the Agnipath scheme and the violent protests that have erupted across the country, Minister for IT and Industries K. Taraka Rama Rao, also known as KTR, questioned whether the announcement was merely a ruse to divert attention away from the allegations of a Modi-Adani corruption nexus in Sri Lanka. After completing their four-year term as Agniveers, people recruited through the Agnipath Scheme would be hired as drivers, electricians, barbers, and washermen in the Armed Forces, the Union Minister stated and Telangana Minister countered the remarks of a Union Minister(without naming him). KTR also blasted another BJP politician(without naming him) for hiring Agniveers as security guards at the party's headquarters. He chastised BJP leaders for claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's words on the Agnipath Scheme were misunderstood by the youth.
