Ketanji Brown Jackson made history on Thursday when the Senate voted 53-47 to confirm her as the country's first Black woman Supreme Court Justice. Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the event, herself a historic first as the first Black and Asian American woman vice president. The United States Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, 83, on Thursday afternoon, elevating her in a historic vote to become the Supreme Court's first Black woman and federal public defender in its 232-year existence. Jackson is currently a judge on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.
