On Monday, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Padma Awards. Many dignitaries, including Prime Minister Modi, were present at the occasion in Delhi's Rashtrapati Bhavan. While the awards were formerly awarded in categories, the President today handed two Padma Vibhushans, eight Padma Bhushans, and 54 Padma Shri awards. Bipin Rawat, India's first C.D.S. General, was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, which was accepted by his daughters Kritika and Tarani. Radheshyam Khemka was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, which was accepted by his son. Padma Bhushan was awarded to Congress senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, S.I.I MD Cyrus Poonawala, and Paralympic silver medallist Devendra Jharia. Swami Sivananda, a parashooter, and several others were presented the Padma Shri honours by the President.
