Chief Minister Chandrababu Inaugurates Centenary Building at Visakhapatnam AMC
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Centenary Building’ on the premises of Andhra Medical College (AMC) in Visakhapatnam, which holds a distinguished position in the medical landscape of Andhra Pradesh. This new building, initiated by alumni to mark the institution’s centenary celebrations, has been developed with modern facilities and infrastructure.

The alumni-led initiative resulted in the construction of this advanced facility, divided into East and West blocks. The East Block consists of four floors, including the ground floor. It features a gallery displaying photographs and details of alumni who have achieved significant milestones in their careers, a library, a dedicated floor for academic activities, and a cafeteria.

The West Block houses a modern auditorium with a seating capacity of approximately 600 people. Several speakers described this construction as a milestone in the college’s development.

Demonstrating their gratitude, the college’s former students—now established as eminent medical professionals both in India and abroad—mobilized around ₹45 crore to fund the construction of the two modern blocks forming the Centenary Building.

As Andhra Medical College completed 100 years in July 2023, centenary celebrations were held in October of the same year. On this historic occasion, alumni constructed and dedicated the new building complex to the college, with future generations in mind. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the building and praised the alumni for their service-minded efforts. Several dignitaries, faculty members, and students attended the event.

During his speech, Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the idea that “food should become medicine,” urging people to treat their kitchens as pharmacies. He highlighted the importance of proactively considering the state of healthcare and medical needs over the next decade. Citing the rapid changes in technology and the medical field, he stressed the need to adapt accordingly.

He also underlined the importance of dietary habits in maintaining good health and advised the public to follow appropriate nutritional practices.

Regarding the development of King George Hospital (KGH), Chandrababu Naidu said that his government is according it special priority. He announced that a Level-2 Cancer Centre is being set up at KGH at an estimated cost of ₹60 crore. He added that the Central Government has identified KGH as a key facility for treating sickle cell anemia and expressed his vision of transforming it into a “Centre of Excellence.” Chandrababu Naidu stated his commitment to developing KGH along the lines of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
