Lagacharla land dispute: Retirement no shield for guilty officers: KTR
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao has issued a stern warning that the names of certain police officers, reportedly harassing the residents of Lagacharla village, have been noted down, and action will be taken against them even after their retirement. He claimed that in another three years, the BRS would return to power, and at that time, regardless of their service status, such officers would be identified and held accountable according to the law.
The remarks were made during an event where women from Lagacharla village in Dudyala Mandal of Vikarabad district donated to the silver jubilee celebrations of the BRS party. Speaking on this occasion, K. T. Rama Rao severely condemned the conduct of the police in the land acquisition dispute in Lagacharla, particularly in their treatment of women.
He demanded the immediate suspension of the responsible police officers and called on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to issue a public apology. K. T. Rama Rao reminded that complaints had been submitted to both the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women regarding the incident. He stated that the NHRC had strongly criticized the attitude of the government and the behavior of the police.
K. T. Rama Rao reiterated his demand for an apology from Revanth Reddy in light of the NHRC's findings. He warned that if appropriate action is not taken against the police officers who behaved inappropriately towards women, the matter would be escalated to the Supreme Court.
He further stated that if the NHRC’s directive to take action within six weeks is ignored, it would be necessary to suspect the involvement of Revanth Reddy’s brother, Tirupati Reddy, in the matter. K. T. Rama Rao also alleged that despite a stay order from the High Court on the land acquisition process in Lagacharla, the process was still continuing. He demanded the government immediately halt these activities.
