Delhi woman judge faces courtroom threats after convicting accused
A woman judge in Delhi was subjected to severe humiliation and threats inside the courtroom after declaring an accused guilty in a cheque bounce case. The incident occurred on April 2 at the Dwarka Court.

Judge Shivangi Mangla had pronounced the verdict, convicting the accused in the cheque bounce case. Enraged by the decision, the accused and his lawyer, Atul Kumar, reportedly confronted the judge within the courtroom. The accused allegedly threatened her, saying, “Who do you think you are? Step outside. Let’s see how you make it home alive.”

Furthermore, the accused allegedly warned the judge to resign from her post immediately, or else he would file a complaint and force her to resign.

Responding firmly to the situation, Judge Shivangi Mangla stated in her official orders that both the accused and his lawyer had mentally and physically harassed her, pressuring her to resign from her position. She further stated that they threatened to file a complaint if she did not acquit the accused. The matter was subsequently reported to the Delhi High Court through the District Sessions Judge for appropriate action. She also approached the National Commission for Women, seeking necessary action against the accused.

Additionally, Judge Shivangi Mangla expressed strong objections to the conduct of the accused’s lawyer, Atul Kumar. For his inappropriate behavior inside the courtroom, she issued a show-cause notice demanding an explanation as to why criminal contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.

Meanwhile, on April 5, Judge Shivangi Mangla sentenced the accused to 22 months in jail and imposed a fine of ₹6.65 lakh in the same cheque bounce case. The incident of a judge being threatened inside the courtroom has sparked serious outrage.
