U.S.–China Trade War Deepens as China Warns Other Nations
The trade war between the United States and China—two of the world's largest economies—is deepening, with both nations imposing retaliatory tariffs on each other. In this context, China has issued a stern warning to other countries not to enter into trade agreements with the United States in ways that could harm China’s interests. The Chinese government has made it clear that if countries ignore these warnings and proceed with such deals, China will respond with retaliatory actions.
The warning was issued by China’s Ministry of Commerce amid reports that the United States, under the Trump administration, is pressuring other countries to reduce their trade with China as they negotiate for tariff reductions or exemptions with the U.S. In an official statement, a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said, “We strongly oppose any agreement made by any country that undermines China’s interests. If such a situation arises, we will never accept it and will certainly take retaliatory action.”
The Chinese statement further noted, “Hurting the interests of others for one’s own benefit is akin to coveting a tiger’s skin—it will ultimately fail and cause harm to others.” China accused the United States of acting unilaterally and adopting protectionist policies, misusing tariffs, and stated that it possesses the capability to protect its rights and interests. It also expressed readiness to work with all countries to counter the actions of the United States.
Recently, United States President Donald Trump expressed optimism that trade negotiations with China were progressing and that a favorable agreement could be reached soon. However, China has not confirmed these talks. While indicating that it is open to negotiations, China has simultaneously asserted its readiness to continue the trade war to the end. There are growing concerns that the ongoing trade dispute between the two nations could contribute to a global economic downturn.
