BMW India Welcomes Tesla’s Entry, Sees Growth for EV Sector
Reports of American brand Tesla, owned by global billionaire Elon Musk, entering the Indian market have caused a degree of concern among some domestic automobile manufacturers. However, BMW India has stated that it is not worried by Tesla’s anticipated entry.
Responding to the development, Vikram Pawah, Managing Director and CEO of BMW India, said that Tesla's entry into India would further boost the electric vehicle (EV) sector. “We want the EV market to grow,” he said, adding, “A segment develops only when there is more competition.”
Speaking about competition from Tesla, Vikram Pawah stated, “We have a presence in all global markets.” He added that BMW has recorded consistent growth in car sales every year and noted that their performance in the electric vehicle segment is also promising.
According to Vikram Pawah, BMW Group sold over 400,000 electric vehicles globally last year, which represented a 13.5 percent increase compared to the previous year’s sales.
