Pushpa-2 Profits Should Be Allocated for Artists’ Welfare: PIL Filed in Telangana High Court
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Telangana High Court, seeking the allocation of profits from the film Pushpa-2: The Rule for the welfare of folk artists and subsidies for small-budget films. The movie, starring Allu Arjun and directed by Sukumar, has reportedly grossed ₹1,740.95 crore, making it one of the highest-earning Indian films.

The petitioner argued that Pushpa-2 generated substantial revenue through benefit shows and increased ticket prices, which were permitted by the government. However, the petition raised concerns over the basis on which the government approved these price hikes and special screenings. Citing a Supreme Court ruling, the petitioner urged the court to direct the government to allocate the film’s profits toward the welfare of artists and subsidies for smaller productions.

During the hearing, the judge questioned the relevance of the petition, noting that the benefit shows and ticket price hikes had already concluded. The petitioner clarified that the PIL specifically concerns the profits derived from these measures.

After hearing the arguments, the High Court directed the petitioner to submit a copy of the relevant Supreme Court judgment supporting their claim. The court then adjourned the case for two weeks.

The PIL was filed by Advocate Narasimha Rao.
