Rishabh Pant Appointed Captain of Lucknow Super Giants, Franchise Makes Official Announcement
Rishabh Pant has been named the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the IPL 2025 season. The announcement follows LSG's record-breaking bid of ₹27 crores for Pant during the recent IPL mega auction. Pant, who previously captained the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2021, 2022, and 2024, decided to part ways with the franchise ahead of the new season.
The auction witnessed intense competition between LSG and DC, with the latter utilizing their Right to Match (RTM) card. However, LSG secured Pant with the highest bid in IPL history, making him the most expensive player in the league’s history.
“Rishabh Pant is not only the most valuable player in the IPL but also one of the finest. From the upcoming season, Pant will lead our team as captain,” announced Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of LSG.
Pant will become LSG's fourth captain after KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya. The franchise, which joined the IPL in 2022, reached the playoffs in its first two seasons (2022 and 2023) but finished in seventh place in 2024.
Pant missed the 2023 IPL season following a severe car accident in December 2022, which left him with significant injuries. Returning in 2024 as DC captain, he has now moved to LSG, where he will collaborate with head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan.
The LSG squad boasts a formidable batting lineup featuring Pant, Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, and Himmat Singh. The bowling department includes Indian seamers Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan, along with talented spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
