BCCI's U-Turn: Tough Times Ahead for Team India Players
According to reports, the BCCI is contemplating reinstating the Yo-Yo fitness test, a benchmark that was mandatory during Virat Kohli's tenure as captain. The test was discontinued due to players’ packed schedules and frequent travel commitments. However, as per a report in The Times of India, the BCCI's medical team has been instructed to prepare for a return to previous fitness standards.
A senior BCCI official reportedly stated, “The Yo-Yo test was sidelined to ease the burden on players who frequently travel and focus on injury prevention. However, some players took this leniency too lightly. There is now a pressing need to reinstate specific fitness benchmarks.”
In addition to fitness requirements, the BCCI is also deliberating changes to policies regarding players’ families accompanying them on tours. Officials believe that the presence of family members during foreign tours might be affecting players’ focus and performance. It remains to be seen what concrete steps the BCCI will take on these fronts.
