ISRO Takes a Crucial Step in SPADEx Docking Mission: Satellites Brought Within Three Meters
The primary objective of SPADEx is to develop and demonstrate the capability to autonomously dock small spacecraft. If this experiment proves successful, India will become the fourth nation to possess satellite docking technology, joining the ranks of the United States, Russia, and China.
This technology has far-reaching implications for India’s space ambitions, including lunar sample return missions, the establishment of an indigenous space station, and a planned human mission to the Moon by 2040. The ongoing docking process is a crucial step toward realizing these long-term goals.
