ISRO Takes a Crucial Step in SPADEx Docking Mission: Satellites Brought Within Three Meters

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved a significant milestone in satellite docking as part of its SPADEx (Space Docking Experiment) mission, a crucial project aimed at future space exploration initiatives. The experiment successfully brought the chaser and target satellites within a three-meter proximity, marking a key advance in autonomous docking technology. Following detailed data analysis, the actual docking process will be carried out. This mission was launched by ISRO on November 30, 2024.

The primary objective of SPADEx is to develop and demonstrate the capability to autonomously dock small spacecraft. If this experiment proves successful, India will become the fourth nation to possess satellite docking technology, joining the ranks of the United States, Russia, and China.
