AP High Court strikes down petitions of Amaravati farmers, DGP

Amaravati, November 2: The Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the petition filed by the Amaravati farmers seeking relaxation in conditions imposed for Maha Padayatra taken up from Amaravati to Arasavalli in Srikakulam district in support of Amaravati as only AP capital.

It made it clear that walkathon should be continued only with 600 farmers and participants of yatra need to show their identity cards issued either by DGP or any other identity card to police if they ask for it.

Also, the High Court struck down the supplementary petition filed by the DGP urging to cancel padayatra. “DGP can approach the court asking for yatra cancellation if the farmers violate any condition,” it stated.

Even, the High Court did not accept the request of farmers to allow supporters of yatra to walk either front or back of walkathon to express solidarity for their cause. “They can express their support in other way,” it mentioned.
