No one except 600 farmers allowed to walk in Amaravati yatra: AP High Court

Amaravati, October 22: After hearing arguments on a petition, the Andhra Pradesh High Court made it clear that no one is allowed other than 600 farmers to participate in Maha Padayatra undertaken by the Amaravati farmers from Amaravati to Arasavalli in Srikakulam district in support of their demand of continuing Amaravati as only capital of Andhra Pradesh.

A petition was filed in the High Court in the wake of tensions prevailing whenever the padayatra is passing through towns and cities with people opposing Amaravati as sole capital staging protests and organising rallies.

The High Court directed that anyone wants to extend solidarity to padayatra can do that by standing beside the road. “Only four vehicles are allowed along with padayatra, the court said and ordered the police to implement its orders strictly. The High Court warned of taking stringent action against organisers of walkathon if they fail to follow the orders.
