3.98 lakh students bid adieu to govt schools in AP, says Special Principal Secretary
Amaravati: The State government has admitted that the number of students in government schools has decreased. While there were 44,29,569 students in the academic year 2021-22, this year there are only 40,31,239 students, said Budithi Rajasekhar, Special Principal Secretary, School Education Department.
Speaking at the Secretariat on Monday, he said that many students have joined private schools due to Covid. He said that government schools have been developed as a substitute for private schools. It is untrue that the World Bank has set conditions like the merger of schools and the filling of teacher posts.
In the past three years, more than Rs 53,000 crore has been spent in the school education department. He said that in the academic year 2022-23, the number of students in government schools has been recorded as 40,31,239, compared to the previous year, including all government, private and aided educational institutions, the total number of students has decreased by 86,199 this time.
He said that 16,857 students migrated to other states, while 38,951 students migrated from one region to another in the state from time to time. In all, 1,289 students are reported to have died. Similarly, due to the decrease in population growth in the state, the number of students joining Class I has decreased by 29,102 compared to the previous academic year.
He said that 38,951 students, who have migrated from one region to another in the State have been identified and their details have been sent to the Collectors of all districts to enroll them in schools. Already, 12,000 students have been admitted to Tigiri schools.
He said that the number of students in government schools has not decreased due to teaching in English medium. Tabs will be distributed to 4.6 lakh students studying in Class VIII by the end of November. It has been revealed that by 2025, all of them will write exams under the CBSE system.
