AP govt moots Amaravati as municipal corporation with 22 villages

Amaravati, September 9: As farmers of villages residing in capital region area are getting ready to launch padayatra 2.0 from Amaravati to Arasavalli in Srikakulam district, the YSRCP government came up with another proposal of making Amaravati as municipal corporation with 22 gram panchayats in which 19 are from Thullur mandal and 3 belongs to Mangalagiri mandal.

In this regard, Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Commissioner Kona Sasidhar issued an order directing Guntur District Collector to complete public hearing in 22 panchayats within ten days. MPDO Srinivasa Rao said a meeting would be convened on Friday for imparting training to panchayat special officers and secretaries of 22 villages on holding public hearings.

Seven months ago, a similar attempt was made by the AP government. Amaravati civic body was proposed with 19 village panchayats. But the villagers opposed and demanded that the state government should include 29 villages in Amaravati municipal corporation.
