Speed up Polavaram works once floodwater recedes: CM Jagan

Amaravati, July 14: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday held a meeting with officials of the Irrigation Department at his camp office in Tadepalli. He reviewed the progress of ongoing irrigation projects including Polavaram.

As the state government had spent Rs 2,900 crore towards construction of Polavaram from its own funds, the CM instructed officials to take steps for getting Rs 6,000 crore from the Centre on ad hoc basis for speeding up project works once floodwater is receded.

“Instead of seeking Centre to reimburse funds on component wise, funds allocation on ad hoc will accelerate Polavaram works,” he mentioned. Officials told CM that all arrangements were made for inauguration of Nellore barrage and Mekapati Goutham Reddy Sangam barrage in August third week.

Jagan instructed officials to ensure completion of Veligonda by mid-2023 so that project is dedicated to the nation. Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu, Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma and other higher officials were present.
