CM Chandrababu Naidu to launch 1S and 1Q Quantum test beds on April 14
Andhra Pradesh is set to become a hub of India’s quantum technology revolution, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu scheduled to inaugurate two quantum computer test beds on April 14 as part of the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative.
The launch, timed to coincide with World Quantum Day, will take place physically at SRM University, Amaravati, and virtually at Medha Towers in Gannavaram. According to the announcement, these Quantum Reference Facilities will make Andhra Pradesh the first state in India to host a dedicated quantum test and certification ecosystem.
The facilities have been developed using indigenous technology and are intended to support the testing and certification of quantum computing hardware. The initiative is expected to strengthen research, innovation and industry collaboration in the quantum technology sector in Amaravati.
The 1Q test bed has been set up by Qubitech at Medha Towers, while the 1S test bed has been developed at SRM University Amaravati using superconducting technology. The announcement said both systems will operate at extremely low temperatures close to -273°C and are designed to test quantum components and devices.
The open-access facility at SRM University is expected to benefit researchers, students, startups and companies working in quantum technologies by providing a platform for experimentation and validation.
According to the announcement, both facilities have been built entirely with domestically developed components, in line with India’s push for self-reliance in deep-tech innovation. It added that the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the Indian Institute of Science and the Defence Research and Development Organisation have provided technical support for the initiative.
Representatives of the National Quantum Mission, IIT professors, scientists, quantum startup founders, research scholars and domain experts are expected to take part in the inauguration event. Arrangements have also been made for more than 150,000 students from universities and colleges across Andhra Pradesh to attend the programme virtually.
The initiative is expected to place Amaravati more prominently on the global map as an emerging centre for quantum innovation and advanced research.
