Amaravati's Venkateswara Temple Set for ₹260 Crore Expansion
The comprehensive development plan will be executed in two stages. The first phase, estimated to cost ₹140 crore, will focus on constructing a robust compound wall, a seven-story Maha Rajagopuram (grand tower), and several halls for religious ceremonies. It will also include a separate temple for Lord Anjaneya Swamy, a sacred temple tank (pushkarini), and stone flooring.
The second phase, with a budget of ₹120 crore, will involve developing key amenities for devotees. This includes creating temple streets (Mada Veedhulu) similar to those in Tirumala, building approach roads, and establishing a large complex for free meals (annadanam). The plan also features a rest house for pilgrims, residential quarters for priests and staff, an administrative building, a meditation hall, and modern parking facilities.
The project was originally envisioned by the TDP government before 2019 to build a replica of the Tirumala temple on a 25.4-acre site near the Krishna River.
While the first phase of the temple's basic construction is already complete, Thursday's ceremony will mark the commencement of the second and third phases of its expansion. Officials have stated that tenders for a fourth phase of work will also be invited soon.
