TDP Accuses Opposition of 'Twisting' Chandrababu's Vizag Steel Remarks
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Sunday accused opposition parties of deliberately distorting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s recent comments on the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to mislead the public.

TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao stated that the NDA government has been instrumental in securing nearly ₹14,000 crore to support the ailing public sector unit. He clarified that these efforts involved securing ₹11,400 crore from the central government and an additional ₹2,600 crore from the state government through aid for water, power, and taxes.

"Instead of acknowledging the responsible steps taken, the opposition is creating unnecessary controversy," Srinivasa Rao said. He asserted that these funds have helped increase the plant's operational capacity from 30% to 80%.

Palla Srinivasa Rao urged for collective responsibility from the management, workers, and even the opposition, emphasizing that public money is being invested in the plant's revival. "For any public sector unit to be profitable, both management and workers must act responsibly," he added.

Recalling past efforts, he noted that the NDA government under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also provided financial assistance to the plant on two separate occasions.

He urged the opposition to stop creating baseless fears among workers and the public, stating the NDA government is committed to protecting the plant in line with the sentiment of "Visakha Ukku, Andhrula Hakku" (Visakha Steel is the right of Andhras).
