Double Decker Buses to Boost Tourism in Visakhapatnam

To offer a refreshing experience to city residents and tourists, double decker buses will soon begin operating on the roads of Visakhapatnam. Officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) are currently preparing plans for this initiative. A total of three double decker buses are expected to be introduced in the city.

Of these, one bus is being procured through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The remaining two buses will be directly purchased by GVMC. As part of the procurement process, GVMC has already issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to invite tenders.

Officials are considering operating these double decker buses primarily on routes that connect the city’s prominent tourist and spiritual destinations, such as Simhachalam, Kailasagiri, and Thotlakonda. They believe this move will significantly enhance the city’s tourism appeal.

The authorities are aiming to launch these services at the earliest possible date. GVMC In-Charge Commissioner Harendhra Prasad is reported to have instructed relevant officials to ensure that at least one bus is ready for launch by June 10, with the inaugural flagged off by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. With this development, Visakhapatnam is poised to gain a new tourist attraction.
