Metro Fare Increase Begins Today in Hyderabad

Metro Fare Increase Begins Today in Hyderabad
Hyderabad Metro Rail fares have been increased effective today. The minimum fare has been raised from ₹10 to ₹12, while the maximum ticket price has gone up from ₹60 to ₹75. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which operates the Hyderabad Metro, announced that fares have been hiked by a minimum of ₹2 and a maximum of ₹16 depending on the distance travelled.

The fare revision has been attributed to the rising operational and maintenance costs. According to previously disclosed information by Hyderabad Metro officials, the number of passengers dropped significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in financial losses for the metro system.

Additionally, the free bus travel scheme introduced by the state government has further impacted metro revenue. Officials reportedly stated that increasing fares was the only viable solution to stabilize finances. The fare hike is expected to generate an additional income of approximately ₹150 crore to ₹200 crore for the metro rail authority.
