BCCI Announces Good News for Rohit and Kohli After Test Retirement
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a major update regarding Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who recently announced their retirement from Test cricket. Despite stepping away from both the Test and T20 formats, the BCCI confirmed that their Grade A central contracts will remain active.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “Even after announcing their retirement from T20s and Tests, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s Grade A contracts will continue. They are still a part of Indian cricket. All the facilities and benefits associated with Grade A will be available to them.”

This decision stands out, as per BCCI rules, Grade A contracts are typically reserved for players who are available across all three formats—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. However, both Kohli and Rohit retired from T20 internationals after leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. More recently, they also bid farewell to Test cricket.

Currently, One Day Internationals (ODIs) remain the only international format in which the duo continues to represent India. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have reportedly set their sights on winning the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, which is their stated reason for continuing in the ODI format. They are determined to play in the next World Cup, especially after India narrowly missed clinching the title in the final of the 2023 edition.
