Pakistan Air Force Official Admits to Strategic Role in Pulwama Terror Attack
In a startling revelation, a senior official of the Pakistan military has publicly stated that their armed forces had a role in the deadly Pulwama terror attack, which killed 40 Indian paramilitary personnel in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. This statement, made before the international media, marks a significant departure from Pakistan's longstanding denial of involvement in the attack.

Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmad, Director General of Public Relations for the Pakistan Air Force, made the remarks during a press conference. He stated, “We tried to convey our strategic alertness through Pulwama.” The session was also attended by Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), and a representative from the Pakistan Navy.

Aurangzeb Ahmad declared that there would never be any compromise if Pakistan’s airspace, land, waters, or its people were threatened. He emphasized that the armed forces are indebted to the nation and are committed to preserving the public's trust at all times and under all circumstances. Referring to the Pulwama attack, he stated, “We tried to signal our strategic preparedness through that, and today, we are showcasing our operational progress and strategic acumen.”

These remarks not only imply Pakistan’s involvement in the Pulwama incident but also reflect the country’s stance regarding the April 22 attack in Pahalgam.

Past Denials by Pakistan

Since the Pulwama attack occurred, Pakistan has persistently denied any role in the incident. Although the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility, then-Prime Minister Imran Khan had condemned the attack, distancing the Pakistani military from any involvement. Despite India presenting extensive evidence linking the attack to Pakistan, the government in Islamabad dismissed these claims. Even India’s report connecting suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar to Jaish-e-Mohammed was disregarded by Pakistan.

Now, with a senior military officer publicly acknowledging Pakistan’s strategic intent behind Pulwama, the dual stance maintained by the country has once again come to light. The implications of this admission on Indo-Pak relations remain to be seen.
