India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement: United States Plays Key Role
A significant breakthrough was announced with a ceasefire agreement between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan, with United States President Donald Trump first declaring the development, capturing global attention. Shortly after, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri officially confirmed the ceasefire.

“Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries held discussions at 3:35 PM. They agreed to halt all military activities across land, sea, and air. The next round of discussions will take place on May 12,” said Vikram Misri.

This development came as a surprise, especially given the recent statement from United States Vice President J.D. Vance, who told Fox News just a day earlier that the India-Pakistan conflict was “primarily unrelated to us.” However, Vance also noted that both he and Trump had been encouraging the two nations to de-escalate tensions. The situation took a dramatic turn when Donald Trump personally announced the ceasefire on his social media platforms, X and Truth Social.

Following Trump’s announcement, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the ceasefire via a post on X. “Over the past 48 hours, Vice President Vance and I have been in contact with senior Indian and Pakistani officials. We engaged in dialogue with Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Army Chief Asim Munir, and National Security Advisers Ajit Doval and Asim Malik,” Rubio stated.

Rubio expressed satisfaction over both governments agreeing to an immediate ceasefire and the launch of broader discussions on a neutral platform. He commended Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for choosing the path of peace, praising their “wisdom and vision.”

The ceasefire announcement followed a critical warning issued by India, declaring that any future terror activity originating from Pakistan would be treated as an act of war, with appropriate retaliation. This warning gained significance in light of recent Pakistani drone and missile attacks on military installations and civilian areas in northern India over the past three nights.

The next round of talks between India and Pakistan is expected to take place on Monday, May 12. Observers hope the ceasefire agreement and upcoming negotiations will help foster a peaceful atmosphere between the two nations.
