Tragic Road Accident in Nellore District: Six Dead Including Five Medical Students
A tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday in Nellore district, resulting in the death of six individuals, including five medical students. The incident took place near Pothireddypalem on the national highway in Kovur mandal.
According to police reports, six second-year MBBS students from Narayana Medical College in Nellore were returning by car after attending the engagement ceremony of a friend’s sister in Buchireddypalem. As the vehicle approached a petrol pump near Pothireddypalem, it lost control, overturned multiple times, and forcefully crashed into a house situated by the roadside. The house belonged to Venkata Ramanaiah, aged 50, who died on the spot due to the impact.
All six students sustained serious injuries in the crash. Upon receiving information from local residents, police and 108 ambulance staff promptly arrived at the scene and transported the injured students to a private hospital in Nellore. Despite receiving treatment, five of the students succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased students have been identified as Jeevan Chandra Reddy (Nellore), Naresh Naik (Anantapur), Abhishek Raj (Anantapur), Abhishaashi Purushotham (Tirupati), and Yagnesh (Prakasam). The sixth student, Navaneeth Shankar from Kadapa, is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound grief over the tragedy. He conveyed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that the government would extend all necessary support. YSR Congress Party leader and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He described the loss of such young lives with promising futures as extremely painful and stressed the need to strengthen road safety measures. He extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
