Pakistani Family in Visakhapatnam Allowed to Stay Temporarily on Humanitarian Grounds

In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian central government had issued directives mandating all Pakistani nationals residing in the country to leave India by April 29. As the deadline expired, a Pakistani family residing in Visakhapatnam has been granted temporary relief from expulsion.
According to official details, the family met with Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi on Monday and explained their situation. They informed him that their son was critically ill and undergoing treatment at a local hospital, and requested permission to stay in the city until his treatment was complete. The family added that they had already applied for a long-term visa, but the application was still pending.
Significantly, while the husband and elder son in the family are Pakistani citizens, the wife and younger son hold Indian citizenship.
Understanding the gravity of the family's situation, Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi responded promptly and brought the matter to the attention of senior government officials. The Andhra Pradesh government subsequently engaged with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad to discuss the matter.
Following these consultations, authorities granted the family permission to remain in Visakhapatnam for a further period.
Commenting on the development, Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi stated, “On humanitarian grounds, the family has been allowed to stay in Visakhapatnam until further orders are issued.” This decision has provided temporary relief to the family amid an otherwise uncertain situation.
