Infosys Terminates 195 Trainees in Fourth Layoff Round of 2025

Infosys, one of India's leading IT giants, has terminated 195 trainee employees following their failure to clear the company's internal assessment examination. This marks the fourth such round of terminations in the current year, according to media reports citing internal company communications sent via email to the affected trainees.

Including the latest round, Infosys has dismissed approximately 800 trainees since February this year. Reports indicate that these trainees, originally recruited in 2022, were brought into active roles in October 2024. The company stated that the reason for termination was the trainees’ inability to pass the final examination conducted after their internal training program.

Despite the terminations, Infosys is reportedly providing a one-month ex-gratia payment along with a relieving letter to the dismissed employees. Additionally, the company is offering free upskilling opportunities through institutions such as NIIT and upGrad. Around 250 trainees have availed these training resources so far, while another 150 have registered for Infosys’ outplacement support services.

Infosys initially terminated 300 trainees in February, followed by another 30 to 35 in March and 240 in April. This brings the total number of rounds to four. The company had earlier disclosed plans to recruit 15,000 trainees during the 2024–25 financial year.
