Pahalgam Attack: Photographer’s Tree-Top Footage Becomes Vital Evidence for NIA
In a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the recent terror attack on tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam, an unexpected individual has emerged as a key witness. A local photographer, widely known for creating popular reels of honeymooning couples and tourists, has now provided the National Investigation Agency (NIA) with crucial evidence.
The horrific incident took place on April 22 at the Baisaran meadow, a prominent tourist destination near Pahalgam. This usually peaceful location, frequented by newlyweds and vacationers, turned into a site of terror when militants launched a sudden assault. In a moment of panic and desperation, the photographer climbed a nearby tree to escape the gunfire and, from his vantage point, recorded the unfolding carnage on his camera.
Authorities consider the footage captured by this photographer to be of immense value to the investigation. Officials believe that the visuals will help reconstruct the sequence of events during the attack and assist in identifying the perpetrators.
According to preliminary findings, two militants suddenly emerged from behind nearby shops and ordered some victims to recite the “Kalma” before shooting them at point-blank range. As panic spread, tourists fled in all directions. Simultaneously, two other militants opened fire from the direction of the zipline area. Reports suggest that a total of four militants participated in the attack—three of them Pakistani nationals and one local identified as Adil Thokar.
The investigation further revealed that the group of militants had trekked for nearly 22 hours through forested terrain before entering the Pahalgam valley. The assailants used advanced weaponry, including AK-47 rifles and M4 carbines, during the assault.
Following the attack, the militants reportedly stole two mobile phones from the scene—one belonging to a tourist and the other to a local resident. Investigators are now analyzing these devices as part of the ongoing probe.
The NIA continues to gather various video footages and other pieces of evidence in an effort to piece together the complete details surrounding the attack.
