Kuppam Municipality: TDP-Jana Sena-BJP Alliance Celebrates Win in CM’s Home Turf
In a significant political development, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) secured a key victory in Kuppam, the constituency represented by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. The party unexpectedly won the Kuppam Municipality Chairman post, marking a notable triumph for the TDP alliance.

The win came amid dramatic last-minute political shifts during the municipal chairman election process. Four councillors from the YSRCP extended their support to the TDP, altering the electoral dynamics decisively.

Kuppam witnessed intense political tension leading up to the vote. Just before the polling process began, the defection of four YSRCP councillors to the TDP camp significantly boosted TDP's numbers. This sudden shift increased the TDP’s strength, culminating in 15 votes in favor of the party’s candidate—14 from its own councillors and one from a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). In contrast, only eight YSRCP councillors participated in the election.

Officials announced that Selvaraj, a councillor representing the 5th ward and a member of the Vanniyakula Kshatriya community, had been elected as the Chairman of Kuppam Municipality.

Following the result, TDP, Jana Sena, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance leaders and workers gathered in large numbers outside the Mandal Parishad Development Office (MPDO) to celebrate. Winning control of the municipality in the Chief Minister’s home constituency has infused new energy into the ranks of the alliance.

This outcome has reportedly delivered an unexpected shock to the local leadership of the YSRCP.
