Actor Mahesh Babu Asks ED for New Date Amid Money Laundering Probe
Renowned film actor Mahesh Babu did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today, despite being summoned for questioning in connection with financial transactions related to the real estate firm Sai Surya Developers. As per the previously scheduled appointment, Mahesh Babu was expected to present himself at the ED office located in Basheerbagh this morning. However, he did not attend and instead sent a letter to the ED officials, explaining the reasons for his absence.
According to available details, Mahesh Babu had served as a brand ambassador for Sai Surya Developers and the Surana Group of companies. The ED has reportedly discovered that he received significant remuneration for promotional activities related to these companies. Sources within the ED suggest that Mahesh Babu accepted a total of ₹5.90 crore — comprising ₹3.4 crore through cheques and ₹2.5 crore in cash.
In the context of allegations that these companies were involved in money laundering and had encouraged the public to invest in their schemes, ED officials issued summons to Mahesh Babu on April 22. The notice required him to appear at the ED office in Basheerbagh at 10:30 a.m. on April 27 for questioning by the investigating officer.
However, Mahesh Babu did not attend the scheduled session. In his letter to the ED, he explained that he was unable to appear due to his ongoing commitments with a film shoot. He stated that he is currently very busy with a movie project and requested that the ED assign an alternative date for his appearance, as he is also engaged with shooting tomorrow.
It remains to be seen how the ED officials will respond to Mahesh Babu’s request.
At present, Mahesh Babu is acting in SSMB29, a film directed by acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli. The movie is being developed on an international scale, featuring global technicians. Actress Priyanka Chopra stars opposite Mahesh Babu in this high-profile project.
