After Pahalgam Attack, Tension Mounts on LoC; ‘Modi Bunkers’ Being Prepared by Border Villagers

Tensions have escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Residents of Salotri village, located very close to Pakistani military posts, have become increasingly vigilant. Alarmed by the possibility of intensifying border tensions, they are cleaning their underground bunkers and preparing emergency supplies.

According to official sources, Pakistani forces have been violating the ceasefire agreement for the past two days, firing small arms at Indian positions. The Indian Army is said to be responding firmly. So far, there have been no reported casualties.

In this context, residents of Salotri are relying on bunkers constructed by the central government for their safety. Villagers stated that these bunkers, built under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are highly secure and have been providing them protection. One villager remarked, “There is no danger for us in these bulletproof bunkers, which are built about 10 feet deep. The reason we feel safe staying within our own homes is the Modi government. We are grateful to them.”

The villagers described the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which innocent people were killed, as a cowardly act and expressed their desire for retribution. They noted that if retaliatory operations begin, they must ensure their own safety, which is why they are preparing the bunkers. During the Kargil War in the past, residents of the neighboring village Hunderman had access to small bunkers for protection. In contrast, residents of Salotri were forced to migrate to Poonch town due to the lack of such facilities. However, now, thanks to the government-constructed bunkers, they are confident they can remain safely in their own village even during intense conflict.
