May 2025 Bank Holidays Announced: Check Full List Before You Visit
As April draws to a close, public attention has shifted toward the upcoming bank holidays in May. In this context, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has officially released the list of bank holidays for May 2025. According to this schedule, banks will remain closed for a total of 12 days next month, including weekend holidays on Saturdays and Sundays.
The RBI stated that these holidays have been declared due to various festivals, national and regional observances, and birth anniversaries. The details are as follows:
May 1 (Thursday): Labour Day / Maharashtra Day
May 4 (Sunday): Weekend holiday
May 9 (Friday): Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti
May 10 (Saturday): Second Saturday
May 11 (Sunday): Weekend holiday
May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima
May 16 (Friday): Sikkim State Day (regional holiday)
May 18 (Sunday): Weekend holiday
May 24 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday
May 25 (Sunday): Weekend holiday
May 26 (Monday): Kazi Nazrul Islam Birthday (regional holiday)
May 29 (Thursday): Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Important Notice for Account Holders
Account holders who have essential tasks or transactions that require visiting a bank branch are advised to take note of the above holiday list and plan accordingly. On these holidays, bank branches will remain closed, and over-the-counter services will not be available.
However, the RBI has clarified that digital banking services such as online banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATM services will remain fully operational on these holidays. Customers can continue using these digital platforms as usual.
