Hyderabad Special Branch Officials Scrutinising Pakistani Nationals
Following the recent Pahalgam terror attack incident, the central government has decided to revoke the visas of Pakistani citizens residing in India. In accordance with this directive, the government has instructed all Pakistani nationals to leave the country within a specified timeframe. As a result, the Hyderabad police machinery has been put on high alert.
Authorities from the Special Branch within the Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate are meticulously examining the records of Pakistani nationals registered under their jurisdiction. While foreign nationals are typically required to register at the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Shamshabad, Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals must register at a designated office located in Purani Haveli, in the Old City area under the Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate.
According to data obtained from this special registration division, a total of 208 Pakistani nationals are currently registered in Hyderabad. Among them, 156 individuals hold Long-Term Visas (LTVs), which are generally issued to those who have married Indian citizens or to their blood relatives. Additionally, 13 individuals possess Short-Term Visas, while the remaining nationals are residing in the city on Medical Visas for healthcare purposes.
In response to the central government's order, Special Branch officials are now in the process of verifying the current residences and other details of these 208 individuals. It has been reported that the Pakistani Embassy has already informed these citizens to leave India immediately. After the expiration of the central government’s deadline, the police plan to gather data from the immigration department regarding how many individuals have exited the country. A senior official stated that those who are found to have overstayed beyond the deadline will be identified and forcibly deported if necessary.
It was also confirmed that none of the Pakistani nationals currently residing in Hyderabad hold SAARC visas.
