Tirumala on High Alert Amid Terror Threats After Pahalgam Attack
In the wake of the recent terror attack near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, security has been significantly heightened at the renowned pilgrimage site of Tirumala. Following warnings from central intelligence agencies about a potential threat from terrorist groups, officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and security forces have increased vigilance and taken stringent precautions to ensure the safety of pilgrims visiting the temple.
Security has been substantially intensified at the Alipiri checkpoint, which serves as the primary entry point to Tirumala. Vehicles traveling along the ghat roads from Alipiri to Tirumala are undergoing thorough inspections. Personnel are rigorously screening not only buses operated by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation and private vehicles, but also luggage carried by devotees. Midway checkpoints along the ghat roads are also under active surveillance, with close monitoring of any suspicious activities.
In preparation for handling any untoward incidents efficiently, a joint mock drill was conducted involving the police, TTD vigilance staff, and specialized OCTOPUS units. The drill focused on emergency response protocols, including how to evacuate devotees to safety in the event of a crisis.
Security measures have also been reinforced around the vicinity of the main temple. Additional security personnel have been deployed around Mada streets, the Vaikuntham queue complex, and other key areas. Officials have affirmed that 24-hour surveillance is being maintained to ensure that devotees can have a peaceful and uninterrupted darshan of Lord Venkateswara. Authorities emphasized that all preventive measures are in place to avert any untoward incidents.
