Koneru Humpy Wins FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Pune
Indian Grandmaster and Telugu chess prodigy Koneru Humpy emerged as the champion of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix chess tournament held in Pune. By the final round of the tournament, Koneru Humpy and Chinese player Zhu Jiner were tied for the top position.
In the decisive final round, Koneru Humpy secured a 1-0 victory against Bulgaria's Nurgyul Salimova. Concurrently, Zhu Jiner also triumphed over Russian competitor Polina Shuvalova. With both players finishing at the top, the title was determined based on superior tie-break criteria, which declared Koneru Humpy as the tournament winner.
Meanwhile, fellow Telugu player Dronavalli Harika drew her game against Mongolia’s Munguntuul Batkhuyag. Vaishali drew against Georgia’s Salome Melia, and Divya Deshmukh concluded her game in a draw with Russia’s Alina Kashlinskaya.
