Delhi Capitals captain penalized after Mumbai Indians match

Axar Patel, captain of Delhi Capitals, faced a major setback following his team’s defeat against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The IPL advisory committee announced a hefty fine of ₹12 lakh against him for violating the league's code.

The match, held on Sunday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, saw Delhi Capitals losing to Mumbai Indians by a margin of 10 runs.

According to the IPL regulations, the fine was imposed due to Delhi Capitals' failure to complete their quota of 20 overs within the stipulated time. The IPL advisory committee released an official statement declaring that the penalty was levied on Axar Patel for maintaining a slow over rate during the match.

This makes Axar Patel the sixth captain in the IPL 2024 season to face a fine for slow over rate. Prior to him, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Rajat Patidar were also fined under the same violation.
