The Innings I Played Yesterday Didn’t Impress My Father: Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma, a player for Sunrisers Hyderabad, showcased a stellar performance in the match against Punjab, held at the Uppal Stadium. His contribution of 141 runs played a pivotal role in his team's victory. However, Abhishek Sharma revealed that this century did not fully impress his father, Rajkumar Sharma.
Abhishek Sharma is now among the players with the highest individual scores in a run chase in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Expressing his happiness, he stated that achieving this feat in the presence of his parents was a joyous moment.
Speaking after the match, Abhishek Sharma said that his father has been observing and encouraging his game since childhood. “My father is my first coach. Scoring a century in front of him was very special. Though this is my highest score in the IPL, my father wanted me to remain at the crease till the end. That’s why the innings I played yesterday didn’t satisfy him. I will work on improving that aspect,” said Abhishek Sharma.
He also shared an interesting detail about his father’s involvement during the match, stating that Rajkumar Sharma often signals advice from the stands while he is batting, suggesting which shots to play and how to approach the game.
Rajkumar Sharma, Abhishek Sharma’s father, recalled advising his son not to worry about form. “These things are part of a cricketer’s career. In previous matches, he got run out or couldn’t score. But this time, he played with confidence and led the team to victory. He will play more aggressively in the coming days,” he said with optimism.
Rajkumar Sharma also disclosed that before the match, Abhishek Sharma had told him he was determined to score runs to secure a win for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
