Action Taken Against Police for Escorting Gorantla Madhav Without Proper Protocol

Disciplinary action has been initiated against police personnel for alleged negligence during the escort of former YSR Congress Party Member of Parliament Gorantla Madhav to a Guntur court following his arrest. Senior police officials expressed displeasure over the conduct of some officers while escorting Gorantla Madhav to court on Friday and ordered a departmental inquiry led by Guntur South Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhanudaya.

During his medical examination at Guntur GGH (Government General Hospital), Gorantla Madhav reportedly spoke on the phone without any objection from the escort personnel. Furthermore, when he was asked to wear a face cover before being presented to the media, he refused and questioned the police angrily, saying, “Will you make me wear a mask?” Madhav’s aggressive behavior towards the officers, coupled with his past as both a Member of Parliament and a police officer, allegedly intimidated the escort personnel, preventing them from intervening effectively.

At the court premises, Gorantla Madhav disembarked from the police vehicle and proceeded directly into the courtroom on his own, without being accompanied closely by the escort officers.

Following a preliminary assessment, senior officials concluded that the situation indicated clear lapses in protocol and escort duties. Consequently, 11 police personnel assigned to Gorantla Madhav’s escort detail have been suspended. Among those suspended are Arundelpet Circle Inspector Veeraswamy; Sub-Inspectors Rambabu, Ramamjaneyulu from Patthabhipuram and Nagarapalem stations respectively; Assistant Sub-Inspectors Anthony and Edakondalu; five constables from Nagarapalem Police Station; and one constable from Arundelpet.
