IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer, Stoinis Power Punjab Kings to 245 Against Sunrisers

Punjab Kings batters unleashed a ferocious assault at the Uppal Stadium, dismantling the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack and posting a massive total. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Punjab Kings scored 245 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front, scoring 82 runs off 36 balls with six fours and six sixes, emerging as the top scorer for the team.

The carnage was set in motion by the Punjab Kings’ opening duo. Young sensation Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh decimated the Sunrisers’ bowling during the powerplay. They added 66 runs for the first wicket in just four overs, demonstrating their dominance. Priyansh Arya scored 38 runs off 13 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Prabhsimran Singh contributed 42 runs off 23 deliveries, hitting seven fours and one six. Nehal Wadhera added 27 runs to the total.

A striking highlight came in the final overs through Marcus Stoinis, who played a blazing cameo. Notably, in the final over bowled by Mohammed Shami, Stoinis smashed four consecutive sixes. He remained unbeaten with 34 runs from 11 balls, which included one four and four sixes.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack struggled throughout the innings, with every bowler conceding over ten runs per over. Harshal Patel was the only bowler to show some control, claiming four wickets. Debutant Ishan Malinga also made a reasonable impression, taking two wickets.

Mohammed Shami endured a tough outing, failing to claim a single wicket and conceding 75 runs in four overs. He narrowly avoided holding the record for most runs conceded in an innings, which currently belongs to Jofra Archer, who gave away 76 runs in four overs earlier this season against the Sunrisers. Shami now holds the second spot on that list.
